5. What would you definitely do, wear or go to on that big day? Why is that important?
--- Maybe will prepare one white dress and one tradition wear. It is a day that I become together with one person for rest of my times, so on that meanful day it will not be bad to wear special clothes.
6. Have you ever been to a foreigner's wedding? What was your impression?
--- I have seen Chinese wedding. It was very loudly, lots of performances was carried out, and the immense amount of foods and alcohols was prepared. The image was red because it was used everywhere, and the atmosphere was joyful.

--- Actually I think to believe in superstitions are very dangerous. So, if it is something good or interesting, I kind of accept, and it makes me feel good, and sometimes even gives me power. However, if it is something bad or negative, I just ignore or forget about it. For me, it is same thing as blood type and horoscopes.

1. Time is money.
--- It means that time is valuable as, and even more than spending money, because we can't earn it and can't save it. So we should use it preciously.
2. A stitch in time saves nine.

Homework for [Language and Clothes]

1. Why are Japanese designer label crazy?
--- Because Japanese people think brand reflects their value. I almost don't buy designer label, because I have not enough money to use for clothes, but I'm also very interested.

2. Why is what you wear so important?
--- Appearance is the only way the others judge me if they don't have personal relationship with me, and clothes takes the biggest part of appearance, so everybody cares.

3. What does “Don’t judge a book by it’s cover.” mean to you?
--- Cover is just a cover, it's only a showing image as a product that we could see, but has almost no relations with the story inside. As same, we sometimes make a stupid mistake, deciding others with their looks and customs. Of course, looks are also a part of that person, but more important thing is inside of that person.

4. Do you judge people according to what they wear? Why?
--- It's hard to say I don't. However, it's just my personal thoughts that is not really meaned. I sometimes think 'maybe that color is her flavor', 'she likes cute clothes', 'she chases newest', 'she probably cares of other things than fashion'. But it has no relations with how I think of that person.

5. Do you think Japanese society puts an importance on clothing when judging other people from another country?
--- Because Japanese people care about appearance too much?

6. What colors are you wearing now? Do they reflect your mood?
--- I'm wearing black. I think black doesn't really reflect my mood. Because black is my favorite, so I wear black almost everyday. However, I think I can't wear very bright and splendid clothes when I'm not cheerful.

Homework for [Death and Funerals]

1. What do you do do that can be called "wrapping"? Give examples and reasons for your actions.
--- The action I often take is wrapping presents. The things I use for wrapping itself has no value, however, I want to notify my sincerity - that I do care about the receiver, and really want to congratulate the reciever, and how much the present contains my love or friendship... things like that.

2. Where do you go when you die?
--- I don't believe in specific religion, however, maybe heaven, maybe hell, maybe the land where dead people lives.

3. Explain why do Japanese have death memorial services 1 month, 1 year, 3 years, 7 years, etc. after a person's death?
--- I searched on internet, it is similar with other countries in Asia, related to Buddhism. Asian people believed there are Gods in underworld. So the descendants pray to the Gods to take care of their ancestors.

4. Do you have any international friends or a host family? If so, how would you express your condolences to them if a family member died? If not, then how would you express condolences to an American host family if their Grandmother died?

Homework for Class #2

First homework was very difficult because it was hard to find a article related to cross-culture in newspaper.

Here is two article about the reckless copying problem in China.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/worldnews/article-1172635/A-30-000-copycat-Rolls-Royce-It-China.html

First article starts with a cynical title - 'A £30,000 copycat Rolls-Royce? It must be made in China'. The article is is about Gelly GE, a car made in China, exhibited at the Shanghai show - which exactlly looks like Rolls-Royce. The theme was ‘re-inventing the classic’, but Rolls-Royce bosses reaction was negative - they thought it was out of line.

Morever, the article writes 'Chinese car companies have a reputation for copying foreign classics – sometimes leading to legal action'. This shows that not only Rolls-Royce interested are upset.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1173047/Chinese-fakeaway-After-copycat-Roller-products-got-lost-translation.html

This is another article of the next day. Title is 'After that copycat Roller, the products that got lost in translation', it introduces imitated products in China. It shows several pictures, and sarcastic comments below.

Both articles are written by Dailymail (UK).

Copying and copyright problems are not only happening in China - also in many other countries and all over the world. However, the problem is that it comes out so openly as if it is fair, and the public seems like to recognize them, and so it has become kind of legalized - in China.

It is a legal problem, but I think, it also could be a cross-cultural problem - the different atmosphere in China and England, and not written in these articles but also other countries.
